CHILTERN NUBA SURVIVAL

The Nuba Survival sculpture was created by artist John Buckley, best known for his iconic Shark in Headington Oxford, following a year spent with the Nuba Rehabilitation Relief and Development Organisation in the mountains of southern Sudan during 2001 - 02. Witnessing the hardships endured by the Nuba people after years of conflict inspired Buckley to create the sculpture as a powerful symbol of their struggle for survival. Today it stands in a field beside a derelict barn near Checkendon, offering an unexpected and thought-provoking landmark within the Chilterns.
